Respect issues !! i need help !!?

the horse i am training has become less aggressive towards me but i want to know if i am doing this the correct way yesterday i took my dressage whip with me in his stall i tapped him on the chest twice to back him up then i put it facing by the girth and by his butt and waited for him to lick his lips/chew and drop his head and until his ears are forward ... but he is still pushy when it is feeding time which is right after my lesson and he knows it as well i really need more tips and thank you
